It is one of the Uttaranchal's most beautiful hill stations. Essentially, it is an Army Cantonment, the home of the Kumaon Rifles. Orchards of Chaubatia, 10 kms east beyond the Mall is a scenic spot, with a good view of the snow and a pleasant short walk leads along a lofty pine covered ridge to the small lake of Bhaludam. The temple of Jhula Devi, dedicated to Shakti, a sister of Nanda Devi is remarkable with a huge collection of bells fixed to the shrine as offerings.
